  GAETA ACADEMY - F.A.Q. NEWS

F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)
Are there other similar orchestral organisations in Italy?
Yes, the Italian Youth Orchestra (Orchestra Giovanile Italiana) based in Fiesole in Tuscany and the Cherubini Orchestra and based in Piacenza.
How does the GAETA ACADEMY differ?
• The Italian Youth Orchestra and the Cherubini Orchestra consist primarily of Italians while the GAETA ACADEMY consists mainly of foreigners.

• Emphasis is on giving young foreigners the opportunity to absorb and explore as much as possible of Italian and European culture which they do not have the opportunity of doing in their native countries which young Italians already possess and experience on a daily basis.

• The GAETA ACADEMY by its nature fosters international understanding and cooperation and gives Gaeta (and Italy) prominence in the international cultural community.

• The GAETA ACADEMY is deeply committed to enriching the cultural life of Gaeta and the surrounding areas.

What does the GAETA ACADEMY offer to the local community?
The GAETA ACADEMY is deeply involved in becoming part of the local community, providing outreach services such as concerts for schools and hospitals, and raising funds for the repair and restoration of historic buildings in Gaeta which can serve as venues for educational and cultural events.
Why should I sponsor the GAETA ACADEMY?
• You will be helping to bring young musicians and artists from all over the world to Gaeta for them to experience the joy of studying and learning in a country that has given so much to European music and art. It is necessary for young artists and musicians to have contact with Italy, especially those who come from distant cultures and feel the need to widen their cultural horizons by spending time in Italy and absorbing its culture.

• You will be contributing to the repair and maintenance of historic buildings whose fate will be further abandonment, or worse, being sold by the state and church to become luxury hotels.
What do I get in return for my donation?
• The GAETA ACADEMY is committed to giving sponsors as much visibility as possible .For example, sponsors can have their names and logos on concert programs and posters. They can have them displayed on a bus taking the Orchestra on tour; sponsors can finance a recording on a CD or DVD and give them as gifts to friends or clients, etc.

• Major sponsors who finance the restoration of an antique building can be acknowledged by a permanent plaque on the wall. There are many different ways to thank sponsors and the GAETA ACADEMY will do all in its power to enable sponsors to feel that their gifts are appreciated and acknowledged.

• There is no real way to describe or quantify the feelings of pleasure that an altruistic gift can give. Therefore the act of giving to such a worthy cause is its own reward. To hear the fruits of your gift in the passionate and enthusiastic music-making of these young and talented musicians is a reward in itself.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes, but check with your financial consultant.
Can I make a non-financial donation?
Yes. At this stage we need everything; instruments, scores and orchestra parts, computers, office equipment. If you wish to contribute instruments check with us first to find out if they can be of use to us. You can also leave us a bequest in your will. We need property for office space and rehearsal rooms.

Even the offer of housing an artist during the Festival or during the academic year is a gesture that would be highly appreciated. It is still best to make a financial contribution as this enables us to put the money where it is most needed.
How do you plan to finance the Academy on a long-term basis?
Ideally we want to start an endowment fund that will eventually enable us to survive in times of financial uncertainty and to be independent of political pressure and conditioning.

The annual budget at the moment is almost €3 million, so an endowment of €100 million or more should be able to guarantee our financial and, therefore, artistic independence. In the meantime we will try to raise the funds from public and private sources. Of course we will raise some money through concerts as long as this does not interfere with the concert curriculum of the Academy.
Isn’t all this a dream on your part?
Yes, but without dreams we never reach the sky and I am going to give it my best shot. But now it’s my turn to ask the questions:
Don’t you think it’s a project that deserves your support?
