The first Gaeta Festival will take place from the 1st –8th September 2007.
It will feature several cycles of daily concerts in the historic churches of Gaeta.
The artists will consist of:
• a small core of 5 professional musicians who will form a piano quintet and will perform one or more concerts per day.
They will be the principal artists at the Midday Concerts and will appear also in different combinations such as a piano trio, violin and piano, string trio etc.
• a solo pianist of international stature who will also perform daily and who will accompany some of the instrumentalists and singers
• 6 young pianists who have recently graduated from the best conservatories in Italy and abroad. Each one will be the protagonist of a solo recital in the early evening and will appear in the Midday Concerts
• a mixture of other young instrumentalists, either as soloists or in small ensembles
• singers who will perform some of the great Lieder and opera repertoire.
The highlights of the Festival include the world premiere of a Piano Quintet commissioned by the Gaeta Festival composed by Luigi Pecchia.
The Gaeta Festival plans to become an annual event during the summer and will be the culmination of the work of the
Gaeta Academy. This year’s Festival has the following purposes:
• to promote and publicize the Gaeta Academy and to attract potential sponsors and supporters
• to give young artists a platform on which to perform, to communicate, and to meet and interact with other young artists from all over the world and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of a Festival
• to give the citizens of Gaeta the joy that comes from enthusiastic young musicians performing at international levels and the awareness that their city has the necessary potential to become important in the world of music and art.
